Once again, I found myself at the Elkridge Furnace Inn. This time, however, I was not only there for the delicious teas and tastings, but as a reader for the Literary Tea featuring the book Wild Women of Maryland written by Lauren Silberman.

DM Cross reads at the Inn's Literary Tea

The Inn’s co-owner, Donna Wecker, took five women from the book and rewrote their stories in first person, bringing their experiences ‘to life’. She then asked me and two others to read with her between courses. I read Lillie Carroll Jackson, Civil Rights Activist and Violet Hill Whyte, aka Lady Law, two of Baltimore’s notable women. The other women read were Hannah Cresap, Virginia Hall Goillot and Anna Ella Carroll.

The delectable food with accompanying teas, provided by Chef Dan Wecker and his staff, consisted of historic Maryland foods including Chicken Maryland, Lady Baltimore petit fours, and buckwheat buttermilk biscuits with Mrs. Snowden’s peach jam (can I get a YUM!)

The upcoming Sunday teas will be holiday themed, then begin again next year with more delightful tea adventures.
