There’s a map at the beginning of The Peacekeeper. Look at it carefully. The map, like the story, seems oddly familiar.

In her debut novel, B. L. Blanchard successfully merges both speculative fiction and crime novel as Chibenashi, an Objibwe Peacekeeper, desperately tries to solve two murders in order to keep his beloved sister from becoming the next victim.

In today’s world, one hesitates to “label” a story as educational, but the reader can’t help but learn about traditional Native culture, and imagine how it might have thrived if it had been left to develop on its own.

The Peacekeeper is a fascinating tale which, like the map, is told from a different point of view.
